Making amazing, high-quality coffee for larger groups can be so time consuming. But the Chemex manual pour-over style of coffee doesn’t compromise on taste while still quickly brewing enough for the whole family.
At Boston Bean we’re all about quality without compromise, so here are some reasons why we recommend the Chemex:
- Pure flavour experience
- Flexible portion size, serve 1-6
- Very easy to use
- Refrigerate and reheat without losing flavour
A simple step-by-step guide to making flavourful, well-developed coffee at home. Perfect for making larger batches.
The Chemex has a dense filter which causes the water to pass through more slowly than other brewing methods. Total brewing time is the same, but a more fully developed flavour is achieved.

How to Brew With the Chemex
A simple step-by-step guide to making flavourful, well-developed coffee at home. Perfect for making larger batches.
Total time – approx. 5 mins
Brewing time – approx. 4 mins
Bloom – 30 seconds
Makes 1 cup of delicious coffee
Ingredients
- 25 g whole coffee beans
- Hot water
Instructions
- Weigh 25g of coffee and grind the coffee (setting: 28 clicks on the Comandante grinder, quite a coarse grind)
- Preheat Chemix and dampen filter paper with hot water
- Expel the pre-heat water and place coffee in Chemex creating a uniform, flat bed of coffee grounds
- Pour 40g of hot water in circular motions and let it sit for 30 seconds – this will be your coffee bloom
- Continue to pour in 3 batches of 120g of hot water in 30 second intervals (for a total of 400g of hot water, including coffee bloom)
- Throw away the filter
- Enjoy the Chemex coffee brew!
Extra tip: Pour in circular motions to evenly disperse the water to achieve an even distribution over the coffee bed without disturbing the grounds too much.
